Axion MEA
Axion BioSystems makes the world’s most advanced MEA platforms — offering unmatched throughput, resolution, flexibility, and performance.
Microelectrode array (MEA) technology reveals how living cells function in real time—noninvasively and without labels. At Axion BioSystems, MEA is moving beyond conventional electrophysiology, combining established multiwell assays with higher-density measurement and new forms of spatial insight. Explore what MEA can reveal across neural, cardiac, and advanced cell models, compare available approaches, and find the Axion MEA platform that fits your research.
Key Features
What MEA reveals
What cells look like does not always reveal how they function. MEA and HD-MEA record signals produced by electrically active cells, revealing when cells are active, how that activity is coordinated, and how it changes over time. MEA captures function across cell populations and networks, while HD-MEA adds the spatial resolution needed to investigate electrical activity at the level of individual cells. Because both approaches are label-free and noninvasive, researchers can repeatedly measure the same cultures as they develop, respond, and recover—capturing dynamic biology that endpoint assays can miss.

Functional activity
Measure neural firing, cardiac beating, field potentials, and other indicators of cellular function in real time.

Network behavior
Quantify bursting, synchrony, connectivity, conduction, and coordinated activity across cells and networks.

Response over time
Track maturation, disease progression, treatment response, toxicity, and recovery in one living culture.
Redefining what MEA can do
Axion BioSystems’ MEA goes beyond conventional electrophysiology. By combining high-throughput and high-definition MEA with electrical imaging, we are connecting scalable functional measurement with high-resolution spatial mapping and label-free views of cellular change. Together, these approaches broaden what researchers can learn from living biology—and push the boundaries of what MEA can do.
MEA
Measure functional activity across established, scalable multiwell assays.
HD-MEA
Map activity and signal propagation with greater spatial and cellular detail.
Electrical imaging
Follow cellular coverage and morphology, organization, and response across space and time—without labels.
