This study aimed to develop a step wise induction method for sympathetic-like and parasympthetic-like neurons from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs).  These individually induced cells were shown to exhibit electrophysiological functional properties, furthermore ChR2-expressing neurons responded to blue-light evoked electrical activity. The neurons were co-cultured with cardiomyoctyes.  Chemical or light evoked stimulation of the neurons changed the beating rates of the co-cultured cardiomyoctyes.
